Dragon Spin Slot Review – New release from Bally

LeoVegas Casino has just added a brand new release from Bally/SG interactive titled Dragon Spin Slot, this is one of the first games from Bally that utilises their new “Topbox functionality” which is supposed to enhance the player experience by allowing you to rotate the screen to a vertical layout, fantastic for mobile players possibly, but for players who choose to play this game on desktop is that really the case?

The base game on Dragon Spin uses a regular 5×3 reel layout and 30 fixed paylines, the game uses a special Mystery Stacked Reel feature which will produce heavily stacked matching symbol reels on every spin and this includes the special wild symbol.

It’s quite possible to fill up the entire screen with matching symbols in the base game although the paytable wins are incredibly small even for the highest paying symbols (less than 2x stake for 5 of a kind wins), thankfully there are 3 different free spins rounds where things to do get slightly better.

Dragon Spin Slot Bonus Rounds

Triggering the main bonus rounds is done by landing 3 of the special Scatter symbols on the middle 3 reels, this then grants a spin of the special Dragon Spin Bonus Wheel which will award 1 of 3 different free spins rounds.

Raining Wilds Free Spins

5 Free spins awarded, during each spin anywhere from 3-10 wild symbols are added onto the reels.

Persisting Wilds Free Spins

5 Free Spins awarded, during each free spin persistent wild symbols are randomly added to the reels, after each spin there is an increased chance of extra persistent wilds being added to the reels.

As an example of the final spin anywhere from 2-7 wilds can be added, during the first spins the range is just 1-2 wilds.

Reel Blast Free Spins

5 Free Spins awarded, if the Reel Blast free spins are triggered a new extended reel set is used which actually contains 90 paylines, 3 separate reel sets are combined with a shared center “Reel Blast reel”.

Overall Thoughts

Dragon Spin Slot is a fairly mediocre release from Bally, this isn’t helped by the frankly horrible user interface for desktop players that still includes the rotating functionality which can be toggled with the “mobile phone icon”.

Things get worse if you decide to play this game using the auto spin feature, with some of the slowest and most drawn out win count up animations we have ever endured, needless to say playing this slot on auto spin is actually more frustrating that spinning manually.

To make matters worse the paytable is fairly tragic in the base game, with a full screen of blue dragon symbols awarding around 50x stake, the 3 unique bonus rounds are a minor saving grace but even these are limited to 5 free spins and soon after you’ll back to the dire base game.

Bally and SG really need to do better, for such a massive company this is a very poor release, the overall user interface design is awful, the only reason I can recommend checking this out is to see how tedious this game is when played using the autoplay mode.

The good news it that there are plenty of great slots already at Leo Vegas, but Dragon Spin should be added to the avoid pile!
