Highlander Slot Base Game
The Highlander slot is a regular 5×3 reel 243-way payline slot from Microgaming with the highest paying symbols being depicted by characters from the film, the special Sword symbol acts as the scatter for triggering the free spins bonus round and can also trigger a special base game feature called The Stroke of a Sword.
If only two of the Sword Scatter symbols land on the reels The Stroke of a Sword feature activates and turns the Sword symbols into wilds.
There doesn’t seem to be much more going on in the base game so you are going to be relying on getting 3 or more scatter to trigger the bonus round where the storm intensifies with additional wilds be added to the reels.

The main free spins round is triggered by landing three scatters landing on the reels and awards 10 free spins.

The Highlander slot is a fairly average release from Microgaming unfortunately as we wanted this to be good, both the base game and bonus round features really don’t seem that interesting or rewarding whilst playing and don’t really offer anything new.
The soundtrack and design of the slot do a decent job of portraying the 80’s cult classic film but there were plenty of opportunities missed in the design with a distinct lack of sword fighting!, as a result, we found the gameplay on Highlander very average when compared to other slots.
Highlander is a slot to check out whilst the extra casino promotions during launch month are running but probably not one you’ll rush back too in a hurry.
