Our initial impressions of the Sword of Khans slot was that it looks to be another take on the highly popular Book of Ra style slot, with expanding symbols, free spins and re-triggers making up most of the gameplay.
This should give you a good general idea of what to expect but there are certainly a few very nice additions that should make you very interested in checking this slot out, especially if you love high variance machines!
Firstly the intro screen boasts wins of up to 10,000x stake which is definitely not to be sniffed at, Thunderkick has also made some subtle changes to the bonus round mechanics too, with a randomly selected Expanding Symbol and a random number of free spins awarded in a range of 5 to 15.
Re-Triggering the bonus round requires only 2 scatters and this not only awards more free spins but additional symbols can be converted into expanding win symbols. The final twist to this slot is that symbols already converted to expanded symbols in the bonus round can be awarded again and this then applies a multiplier to them, and this can occur twice giving you 3x multiplier expanding symbols!
For the most part this slot will play out very similar to Book of Ra, but with some patience and a few lucky Re-Triggers things actually get more exciting with multiple expanding symbols and multipliers too!

The main bonus round is triggered by landing 3 or more the special Scatter/Wild symbols anywhere on the reels, you are then randomly awarded a starting number of free spins that could be either 5, 7, 8, 9, 10,1 2 or 15 free spins.
Once the number of free spins has been awarded you then given a highlighted special symbol which will act as the expanding symbol during the bonus round.
Re-Triggering the bonus round is done by landing just 2 Scatter/Wilds during the free spins, with extra free spins added along with a further expanding symbol.
Multiplier Symbols
When re-triggering the bonus round if the selected symbol is already an active expanding symbol (highlighted below the reels), then a multiplier is applied to that

The Sword of Khans slot from Thunderkick is a fantastic slot release, our initial concerns that it might just be a lazy Book of Ra clone were completely blown out of the water. The subtle changes to the way the free spins and expanding symbols are randomly awarded along with the 2 scatter re-triggers and further symbols becoming expanding adds another level of excitement to this machine.
The final icing on this cake is the ability to upgrade these expanding symbols with up to 3x multipliers which definitely kept us playing and wanting to trigger this special feature.
In our playtests, we had plenty of regular bonus rounds with mixed results as you would expect from a high variance machine, re-triggering isn’t as common as you might expect, but at its core, this slot is capable of huge wins just like Book of Ra anyway.
Generally, the bonus rounds tended to end in the 20x stake up to 100x stake areas, with our best bonus round topping 600x stake with obviously bags more potential.
