The base gameplay in Beasts of Fire takes place on a five-reel slot in an almost diamond shaped layout. By default, this gives 576 ways to win design, with reels of 3-4-4-4-3.
Symbols are a mix of wildlife-themed and regular J, Q, K, A symbols, all of which come in fairly stacked formations. Charging Buffaloes
One notable feature in the base game is the Charging Buffaloes feature triggered randomly on any spin during the base game.
Signalled by Charging Buffaloes smashing through the screen as shown in the screenshot, this feature increases the number of Buffalo symbols that land in view during that spin.
While this doesn't guarantee any win, it significantly increases your chances of landing wins with the premium paying symbol and occurs quite frequently to keep the base game interesting.
Meteor Re-Spin
The other base game feature that can dramatically alter gameplay comes from the Meteor symbols, which can only land on the middle reel.
When this feature triggers, the reel height expands by one, along with an increased chance of triggering the Charging Buffaloes feature.
This reel expansion can occur up to 3 times if a new meteor symbol lands in view on the re-spin. If you look at the top of the reels, you will notice three chevrons, and these will illuminate as the reels are expanded during the re-spin, allowing you to keep track of the current state of the reels.
By its very nature of expanding the reels, this also increases the number of winning ways drastically, so from the base game 576 ways, this can enlarge to a vast 12,348 ways when fully expanded.
Both of these small features prepare you well for what's in store during the bonus round. Any Meteor Re-Spins permanently expand the reels for the duration of the entire bonus round, and full re-triggers are also a possibility.

Overall, Beasts of Fire feels like a fairly average release from Play’n GO. If you are looking for a simple and easy-to-understand slot that doesn’t require a manual to explain the gameplay, this fits the bill. The features are simplistic, easy to understand and very well-executed, and in the right circumstances, can deliver some vast wins too.
By the time the first bonus round trigger occurs, you should already have a good grasp of the critical features, and both base game features trigger very frequently and form the main focus of the bonus round.
The main issue in gameplay is that even with the Meteor Re-Spins, and the enlarged reel set, which remains persistent in the bonus round, there is still a significant chance of hitting nothing at all, wilds are incredibly scarce, and even the stacked Fire Beasts can feel that way too.
In our playtests, we struggled to get over 100x wins in the bonus round, then managed this in one base game Meteor Re-Spin easily, again. It’s just down to how this slot delivers wins. The middle ground is pretty much non-existent!
There is a lack of anticipation of excitement from these features until a colossal matching stack of symbols may line up out of the blue. We aren’t ever going to complain about huge wins, but the anticipation leading up to these is almost as crucial for long term appeal.
It feels reminiscent of Raging Rhino’s theme but with a completely different feature set and possibly less excitement with the lack of multipliers and frequent re-triggers. If you manage to hit something big, you may fall in love with this slot. Still, it doesn’t offer that edge of the seat bonus round anticipation that slots such as Dead or Alive two offer, where you have to desire to try again after coming close to an epic win.
It’s certainly worth a short play, but quite possibly one you won’t come back to play in the long term.
