Break Da Bank Again Megaways Slot Review (Microgaming)
It’s Time to Break Da Bank Again This Time With Added Megaways and a “Hot Mode”!
Microgamings gaming partner Gameburger Studios have been given the huge task of creating the Break Da Bank Again Megaways slot. With a scheduled release date of the 24th of August 2021, casinos such as Energy Casino will have this slot playable on launch day!
Break Da Bank slots – A Brief History
For newer players, you might need not be aware of the long history of this slot, but it has been a high variance favourite from Microgaming over many years and in many different versions.
It all started out as a simple, big-hitting 3 reel slot (Break Da Bank). This was then expanded to what is probably the most popular Break Da Bank Again slot, which had 9 paylines, free spins, 5x Multiplier wilds and an added 5x Multiplier in the bonus round.
At the time, this 25x combined multiplier potential and high paying premium symbols made it a super attractive slot to high variance players seeking the dream 4 diamond symbol and a 5x Multi wild in the free spins.
To this day, it is still a solid big-hitting slot for players who enjoy the more regular classic slot gameplay.
Various re-incarnations like Quad Versions, Hyperspin and Respin versions have all been released over the years. However, in this new version, we have the classic Break Da Bank theme, but with added Megaways, Bonus Buys, Huge Multipliers, Multiplier Wilds and a nice little surprise of a randomly triggered “Hot Mode.”
Break Da Bank Again Megaways – Base Gameplay
The classic theme has been almost completely retained in the Break Da Bank Megaways version, minus the music with a distinctly retro feel that does the original slot justice.
All the familiar symbols are present on the reels, such as the purple gems, gold bars and cash symbols, including the 5x Multiplier wilds that are now found on the top “side reel”.
As a Megaways slot, it’s a fairly familiar set-up with the regular 117,649 ways to win, unlimited rising multipliers in the free spins and the usual cascading wins systems we are all too familiar with now.
In terms of key differences, this slot does have a few subtle ones that increase its volatility and potential on a massive scale. The simple addition of the 5x Multiplier wilds whilst being infrequent boost wins to epic proportions, factor in the rising multiplier in the free spins, and it’s easy to see how these big wins being multiplied can lead to these some monster hits.
However, combining the 5x multiplier wilds and the rising multipliers found in the free spins mode is key to the biggest wins.
Triggering the bonus round requires 3 or more of the Bank Vault Scatter symbols awarding 10 free spins, with an additional scatter 4 Scatter trigger providing 15 free spins.
There is also a special Hot Mode on this slot, which fans of slots such as Terminator 2 will already be aware of. This can randomly trigger once a bonus is triggered, and on this slot, the Hot Mode means you start the bonus round with a huge 20x Multiplier!
If you have flames bursting out from the screen, prepare for a fascinating bonus feature!

Free Spins and Bonus Features
Base Game Features
There are no real extra bonus features on offer in the base game, the 5x Wild Multipliers are present on the upper reel in base gameplay, when these form part of a winning combination the total amount won is multiplied by 5x.
As the screenshots above show this can lead to some huge base game wins when stacked high paying symbols form the winning combinations across all the reels.
In the free spins round however the wilds can also appear on the regular middle reels (reels 2 to 5), whilst they are not frequent they can show up and multiply the rising multiplier valued wins by a further 5x, and this is really the key to landing the biggest wins on this machine.
5x Multiplier Wild Symbol
The free spins round is triggered by landing 3 or more scatters anywhere on the reels. An extra scatter provides more starting free spins.
3 Scatter awards 10 Starting free spins
4 Scatters awards 15 starting free spins
Hot Mode can randomly be awarded, giving a starting multiplier of 20x
A single scatter landing will award +1 Extra Free Spin each time it lands on the reels during the bonus round. Landing 3 will award a full re-trigger and 10 extra spins!
The Extra spins on this slot are very frequent and really help extend the bonus feature, especially if you are landing small wins and raising the multiplier value along the way.
Hot Mode Free Spins
There isn’t any freely available info on the % trigger chance of the hot mode from regular play. Needless to say, expect this to be a very small chance per bonus trigger, though, as the starting 20x multiplier gives you a huge starting potential.
Bonus Buy Feature
In countries where it is still allowed there is a Bonus Buy feature allowing you to bypass the base gameplay and instantly trigger the free spins modes.
In Break Da Bank Megasways there actually 3 different bonus buys options on offer with varying starting free spins and multipliers, you can even access the Hot Mode bonus for a premium cost of 500x stake!
Yes, you read that correctly a whopping 500x stake cost!
Bonus Buy Options
10 Free Spins – Cost to Buy 100x Stake
15 Free Spins – Cost to buy 130x Stake
15 Free Spins 20 X Multiplier (Hot Mode) – Cost to buy 500x Stake
The paytable displayed below shows the premium win symbol payouts based on a £2 stake size, the premium Purple Gem symbol in base gameplay awards a 15x stake win or £30.
These values are of course also affected the 5x multiplier wild symbols, along with the rising multipliers found in the free spins and vastly increase winning potential of this slot.
Break Da Bank Again Megaways – Bonus Buy Playtest
We playtested the Break Da Bank Again Megaways slot utilising the bonus buy feature, obviously having access to the Hot Mode means we were very keen to test out the potential and extreme volatility of this feature.
We played out 10 bonus buys on the slightly enhanced 15 free spins 130x cost option and then repeated with 10 further bonus buys on the 15 free spins Hot Mode option.
This is done purely to simulate a realistic player session. We aren’t looking to test the theoretical RTP here, but more to get a feel of what a real money player session may look like, and we include the good, the bad and the horrific regardless of the outcome!
20 Bonus Buys Playtest Results
The stake size was €2 making the Bonus Buys cost €260 (130x Stake) and €1,000 (500x Stake)
Our playtest confirmed just how volatile and potentially crazy this slot can be. The literally huge initial outlay of 500x stake to play out one bonus round is such a risk. Thankfully this is limited by stake size also.
We had some decent regular bonus along with one full re-triggers and managed to reach well over 20x multipliers in the regular bonus round, but missed out on any big hits on this feature.
The Hot mode was looking like a complete disaster until we were saved by one huge win of 1700x stake thanks to a multiplier wild and rising multiplier combination, then a further bonus round that topped out at 3267x Stake with the vast proportion of this down to one single hit which we have screenshotted above.
If you look closely at the win amount, you can see that this single hit accounts for almost all of the bonus round win, which is a good indication of how volatile this slot is.
You can reach the dizzy heights of 40x multipliers, earn lots of extra free spins, even get a full re-trigger, but without that one big hit, preferably with a 5x multi combined, you may be disappointed.

Final Opinions on Break Da Bank Again Megaways
Break Da Bank Again Megaways is actually one of our favourite recent Megaways releases. This may be a rose-tinted effect of our appreciation of the original slots in the series, as the Megaways features used here are fairly generic.
Still, the addition of a Hot Mode is a key positive feature to this machine, as is the 5x Multiplier Wilds.
We were glad they haven’t tried to remake the wheel in terms of visual design with the classic visuals and symbols retained. We would have been pleased with sound effects being used from the original Break Da Bank Again, too, with its classic thudding scatter symbols and lounge music in the bonus rounds.
The extra free spins are super useful on this slot and much less of an annoyance compared to the previous versions, where it almost felt s like a delay to the bonus round.
The Winning potential on this slot is off the charts, we aren’t sure whether we would dare opt for the hot mode bonus buy at 500x to buy it is verging on the ridiculous, but the fact this can trigger from regular play gives fans of high variance slots a definite target bonus round to hunt however small the chance is.
But for fans of any of the Break Da Bank original slots, this is more of the same. With increased variance and Megaways added, Gameburger Studios has done a great job in terms of bringing this slot to life in a Megaways format!
