Secrets of the Sorcerer is a completely different release from iSofBet, a stripped-back classic 8-bit retro gaming theme, both visually and in terms of in-game sound effects and music, which can become quite annoying after extended exposure!
Gameplay-wise, you have a mix of styles that reminded us of the classic retro Flame Busters slot from Thunderkick and gameplay mechanics similar to Where’s the Gold (Aristocrat), which iSoftbet has emulated previously in their hugely underplayed Fishin for Gold slot.
However, there are a few new features here worth looking into, with a Bonus Chance Feature that collects scatters from the base game, giving you a Gamble option for a Bonus Trigger, and a unique Secrets Uncovered randomly activated feature that can produce a big base game win or trigger the bonus round!
Multiplier wilds also feature on this slot. Its big win potential seems reliant on being awarded these Multiplier WIlds during the bonus round. More on that later with our 1000 spins playtest!
Secrets of the Sorcerer Slot – Base Gameplay
In Secrets of the Sorceror, you have a fairly standard 5×3 reel layout with 25 fixed paylines. It is definitely worth looking through the paytable, as some of the paylines are unusual in that they cover the same positions on the earlier reels (Paylines, 1, 22 and 23).
For example, landing a 3 of a kind on what looks to be payline 1 will pay out on these paylines too, so if you are scratching your head whilst playing, why do some paylines seem to pay more? This is why!
With no wilds appearing in the base game, you are looking to trigger the bonus feature as quickly as possible with 3 Potion Scatter symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4. Also, keep an eye out for the randomly activated Secrets Uncovered feature, which can produce a big base game win or instantly trigger the bonus feature.
Landing 2 scatters and nearly triggering the bonus feature isn’t wasted on this slot either. The unique Bonus Chance will collect these and offer you a gamble at triggering a bonus feature. The more 2 Scatters you collect, the higher your chances of winning when this option is used (1% each time).
This Bonus Chance feature accounts for 2.89% of this slots RTP, so think of it almost as a bonus feature grind, unless you like to gamble earlier into the collection process.
Game Features Summary
25 Fixed Paylines
3 Scatters in the base game triggers the Free Spins Bonus Round
Secrets Uncovered can instantly trigger the bonus round
Bonus Chance gives a “Pie Gamble” bonus trigger chance
Wild Symbols and Wild Multipliers are awarded during the Free Spins
The Wild symbols only appear during Free Spins, there are no base wilds on this slot. Once the bonus round is triggered you have a small auto-picking feature where the Wilds are selected for you, dependant on which potion you selected as your free games option.
These Wild symbols will appear as Golden symbols during the bonus round and if lucky can have a win multiplier attached to them of either 2x, 3x or 5x.
The multipliers are multiplicative of each other, but for this to occur they need to be different values, so in essence, you need at least 2 multiplier wilds for this to occur!
From the Game Rules,
Note: If more than one multiplier Wild of the same kind appears on the same win line, they will not be multiplicative of each other (i.e x5 Wild and x5 Wild will still only multiply the win by x5).
Free Spins Bonus Round
The free spins round is triggered by landing 3 Bonus Potion symbols on Reels 2,3 and 4. A simple potion picking round is then played out which determines the starting number of free spins.
Any symbols contained in the potion brew are converted into Golden Wild symbols. and can also have multipliers assigned to them too.
During the free spins, the Wizard can pass by the reels to guarantee a Big Win.
Collecting 3 additional Potion symbols during Free Spins will award +2 extra Free Spins.
Bonus Potion Scatter Symbol
Secrets Uncovered Feature
On any base game spin, you can trigger Secrets Uncovered awarding either a big win in the base game or triggering the Free Spins bonus round. This is a randomly activated base game feature.
Bonus Chance Feature
Every time you land 2 of the Bonus Potion symbols these will get collected in the Bonus Chance Meter. The more you collect the higher your chance of a winning bonus trigger from this feature, with a 1% increase for each double scatter collected.
If you completely fill the wheel you are guaranteed a Bonus trigger, this requires 100 collections!
Note – Scatters/Bonus symbols are no longer collected when the wheel is full and the game RTP will be lower, once it’s filled up completely use it immediately!
The paytable displayed below shows the premium win symbol payouts based on a €5 stake size, factor in that no multipliers are being applied to these amounts in the paytable.
The highest paying symbol pays 20 x stake for 5 of a kind, but this can be Multiplied during the free spins by 2x, 3x, 5x, and even multiplicative multipliers too!
Secrets of the Sorcerer Slot – The 1000 Spins Playtest
We playtested the Secrets of the Sorcerer Slot with 1000 base game spins and a bet size of 5 euros.
The slot was tested on the 95.96% RTP version which includes 2.89% for Bonus Chance which was used at the end of the playtest, although we reached just over halfway to filing it which looks to be the optimal choice for a guaranteed trigger.
1000 Spins Playtest Results
Number of Bonuses Triggered – 9 in 1000 spins
2 Bonuses from Secrets Uncovered Feature
Bonus Frequency – 1 in 111 spins (0.9% chance per spin)
Notable points from the playtest were that the base game is a pretty bland affair. With our highest base game win of just 12x in 1000 spins reinforcing this point.
Thank god for an auto spin! With no wilds in the base game and an unusual payline setup, you really are just hoping for a bonus trigger, or the Secrets Uncovered feature to activate and grant you a bonus trigger.
In our playtest, we didn’t manage to land a Big Win from the Secrets Uncovered feature. It was always Bonus Triggers which might be a blessing. How big these “Big Wins” are remains a mystery for now!
The Bonus Chance collection feature is a grind, only moving 1% for each double scatter collected. Filling this will take a lot of spins, possibly more than you will play on this machine.
The potential of the bonus rounds feels almost completely dependant on whether you get awarded not only several wilds but are fortunate is being awarded the Multiplier Wilds (they make a HUGE difference).
Without multipliers, the bonus rounds felt underwhelming, but with 2 different multipliers awarded in one round, the slot feels completely different with some serious big hit potential on offer.
The extra spins feature almost feels like an afterthought. It takes 3 potions collected to award just 2 extra spins, which didn’t feel that rewarding.

Final Opinions on Secrets of the Sorcerer
Secrets of the Sorcerer is a decent medium variance slot. We were initially very excited to see iSoftbet releasing a retro-themed slot, especially one that mimics the classic Where’s the Gold in terms of gameplay.
The gameplay, particularly the base game, felt somewhat stale and would have benefitted from extra features and generally more mini-features to keep it entertaining.
After our playtest, it felt like there was almost complete reliance on the Multipliers Wilds to get the big wins. The bad news here is that they seem to be quite rare, with only 1 of our 9 playtested bonus rounds containing any Multiplier Wilds. Thankfully for us, we got 2 of them and got to see the multiplicative multiplier wilds in action.
Overall is a solid medium variance slot. Implementing the bonus features felt like a missed opportunity, particularly the lack of time spent in the free spins picking and awarded wilds features.
The Bonus Chance feature also feels way too drawn out with 100 2 Scatters required to fill it. The bonuses trigger regularly, and the average bonus rounds did give us an RTP over the stated figure, so it’s definitely one for a longer play session.
If you are going to check this machine out, don’t expect miracles unless you get several Multiplier Wilds!
